In 2016 BIZERBA Cutting Machines offered students to participate in a Ergonomic Design Competition for their cutting machines
Bizerba is a german based technology leader and is setting standards for weigh-price-labeling technologies on an international level since 1866.

The challenge was to create a compelling interface design for the existing cutting machines that improves working at sales areas for cheese and meat.

Furthermore we had a major focus on improving the standards of hygiene.
digital display itself was a big improvement in design and ergonomics. We replaced the old clunky buttons with a modern touch-screen solution.
The lower part of the cutting machine had to be made out of a jointless body , to avoid food to enter the casing and violate health standards

The housing is from a of a black plastic to make the machine seem more settled on the table. The shape is inspired by the upper part of the machine and was made minimalistic to keep the focus on the functional parts.
